The shipping and packing process can be overwhelming for new businesses or for those who are new to the process. If you’re a small business that is involved with shipping fragile items or you’re just looking to courier a special item for Valentine’s Day, we’ve come up with 5 important tips to help you properly pack your parcel.
Our couriers at Select Delivery Systems will ensure that care is taken during pick up, transport, and delivery of your parcel to make sure it arrives safe and intact. We handle all courier and parcel deliveries by hand and not by conveyor belt like some of the bigger companies. So you can rest assured that your package is safe with us.
Tips When Shipping Fragile Items:
Use a shipping box that’s slightly bigger than the item
Picking the right box is imperative to making sure your item is packaged correctly. A box that’s too big will allow for more movement and a box that’s too small won’t allow us to properly pack it with protective materials. You should also be using a box over a polybag if your item is breakable!
Use foam wrap when possible
If your item isn’t manufactured with foam protection (foam cutouts that are moulded to the item) you’ll need to wrap it with bubble wrap, foam, or recycled paper/kraft paper.
Use air pillows or packing peanuts
Fill any empty space in the box with air pillows, packing peanuts, or paper to stop any more movement.
Add “Fragile” sticker
This label helps carriers identify that the item needs to be handled with extra care. We recommend adding a few labels so it’s not missed.
Let your carrier know it’s fragile!
Leave a request during your order that it requires “special handling” or “fragile” so that the message gets to all parties!
